League Europe draw: Hertha - Benfica and Sporting - Everton
Sporting will face England's Everton and Benfica the German Hertha Berlin in the 16th's finals of League Europe of football, issued today's draw made in Nyon, Switzerland.
The two Portuguese clubs play the first hand out, on 17 February 2010, and the second in Lisbon on 24 February.
In case of discharge, Benfica measures forces in eighths-finals with the winner of Marseille vs FC Copenhagen (first-hand in the Light, 10th March), while Sporting will play with Atletico Madrid or Galatasaray ( the round shall be decided in Alvalade, at 17th March).
Benfica and Hertha Berlin faced only once in its history, in a game of last season and which ended drew 1-1 in Germany, at a meeting of groups stage of former UEFA Cup.
Today's draw to 16ths finals of League Europe, prove that replaced UEFA Cup, puted the German team on the way to Benfica, but this time in a round over two legs.
German team has integrated already this season, Sporting´s group, and lost in Alvalade (1-0) and won in Berlin (1-0), finishing second in Group D behind the " lions".
By Sporting side, football's director, Sa Pinto, found that Everton, opponents of the "lions" in the 16ths finals of Europa League, a team that will be difficult, although beeing trough a less positive Premier League.
"It is a tough opponent, we have to respect him, but we have to have a good level," said the former footballer, in statements to radio TSF.
In Nyon, where was held the draw for League Europa, Sa Pinto noted that "Sporting is involved in all competitions and wants to go as far as possible in all of them."
In groups stage, Everton qualified second in group I, the same of Benfica, who was first, and lost in the Light by 5 - 0, while at Anfield Road by Benfica, was beaten to 0-2.
