V. Setubal at risk of being out of professional football
State's tax may prevent Vitoria Setubal to participate in the competitions of professional football, having been notified on Thursday, to pay one million euros, related to the image rights of Velli Kasumov, a former club's player.
The company Asesoramiento Deportivo is conducting a series of efforts and will "lodge to the Portuguese League for Professional Football a certificate of the proceedings, in which states the debt claimed of Vitoria Setubal SAD, to the tax authorities."
The company intends, therefore, impound the club's application to participate in professional competitions for next season.
According to Duarte Costa, attorney of that company, "is pending a claim by the Tax Office, of Setúbal(city), of 1 117 million worth, and is not clear that Vitoria Setubal SAD can, until 30 April 2010, to resolve this matter, once to that date will remain the outstanding amounts owed to the state. "
The situation arose in 2001 when the company brought an action against Vitoria Setubal, claiming that the rights of the Azerbaijans player's image had been used in a book of stickers without permission.
