Draw for the qualifying round of Euro 2012

The draw for the Euro 2012, this morning puted Nordic opponents in the way of the Portuguese selection. Apart from Denmark and Norway, also join Portugal in the Group H, Cyprus and Iceland to compete the qualifying round.

For Carlos Queiroz will be a sort of reunion with a selection that doesn't bring great memories.
Denmark, ranked first in the group and executioner of Portugal during the FIFA World Cup qualifying in 2010, - and are already well known by the Portuguese names like Daniel Agger, Thomas Kristensen, Dennis Rommedahl and of course, Nicklas Bendtner - will be the major obstacle in a lot of nuisance opponents.

Norway, for example, with a more physical football, and where height plays an important role, will be another tough nut to crack.
With figures like Jon Arne Riise, Morten Pedersen and John Carew, the selection guided by Egil Olsen - coach who also coached Iraq in 2007/08 - hasn't a great international career, but his style of play may hinder the Portuguese task.

From the island of Cyprus reached an opponent, at least, ungrateful. In a country where football has evolved very quickly - and the European providing of Anorthosis Famagusta and APOEL are proof of that - the enthusiasm surrounding the selection is huge.
Defender Charalambous, midfielder Charalambides (known of FC Porto) and striker Konstantinou (74 games, 29 goals) of Omonia, will be a reference key for a team that has Greek finger: the coach is, since 2004, Angelos Anastasiadis.

And if we can alleviate the concerns in a race to a European Cup, Portugal may have a less strong headache against Iceland.
With no presence in the final stages of major tournaments, the selection led by Ólafur Jóhannesson takes Eiður Guðjohnsen as mainstay of his attack: Tottenham striker has 24 goals in 60 games, although come to the qualifiers with 32 years already.

The qualifiers will be played from 03 September 2010 to September 15, 2011.
