Benfica suffered losses of 13.8 million euros

The hiring of reinforcements of weight and the "not sale of accredited players."
It's mainly based on these two parameters that Benfica justify the 13.8 million euro loss it made in the first half of the 2009-10 season -, an increase of 4.6 million over the same period of the 2008-09 season.

In truth, the only question layed in the numbers in question, because the avowed policy of Benfica's managent in recent months, had alredy pointed in this direction.
Furthermore, in a statement sent to the Market Commission (CMVM), the Directors Board of benfica SAD acknowledges that the investment has been affixed to the squad would to disrupt the accounts: "The results generated through transactions of athletes passes achieved a negative amount of 10.9 million euros, representing a doubling of the damage over the same period."

And if there were doubts as to the cause-effect relationship that Benfica expect to be positive, - and therefore to pay sportingly and financially dividends - the document would dispelled it, when referring to an implemented "investment policy with the objective of achieving tittles, and thereby to enhance their assets."

Between July and December 2009, the most striking is the consolidated total liabilities, which rose from 178.6 (end 2008) to the current 340.7 million euros.
In the statement, the "red" administration justifies this increase of 90.7 percent with the "increase of individual liability of Benfica, and the acquisition of Benfica Stadium.

What explains this boom of the individual liability of Benfica? Essentially the debt to the Benfica Stadium, the increase in value of obtained loans in about 15.5 million, and the investments in acquisition of athletes.

On the other side of scale, has been a growth of consolidated assets: 166.8 jumped to 355 million, representing an increase of almost 113 percent.
