Belenenses back to the second league 11 years after

The Belenenses was relegated to the League of Honor after 11 seasons followed in the top flight, losing 2-0 yesterday in the grounds of Vitoria Guimaraes in the 28th matchday -two for the seasons end.

Andrezinho, by penalty (27th minute), and Nuno Assis (47') constructed the result that dictated the Vitoria Guimaraes' triumph (5th), in the match played at Estadio D. Afonso Henriques.

Ranked 16th. and last placed with just 17 points (two wins and 11 draws), the Lisbon team was unable to achieve the victory, the only result that allowed them to defer the fall confirmation, by at least one more round.

With two rounds remaining, ie, six points in dispute, the "blues" can no longer reach the 14th place -synonymous of maintenance, which is occupied by Olhanense with 25 points, as many as the Vitoria Setubal (13th) and three more than a Leixoes (15th), still struggling to stay in the higher echelon.

After having ensured the maintenance in the "secretariat" in 2005-06, and last season due to administrative demotion of Gil Vicente in the first case, and Estrela da Amadora in the second, Belenenses returns to the secondary level after 11 followed seasons among the elite.

The Lisbon historic club, national champion once, in 1945/46, counts 72 attendances in the main competition, and is the most frequent after the "totalistic" Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting, which account for 76 holdings, including this season.

The Belenenses was only twice in the secondary level, the most recently in 1998/99.
