Portuguese League of Clubs wants to legalize on-line betting

Herminio Loureiro, League of Club's president, stated that it is necessary to break "taboos" and legalize Internet gambling, given the possibility of creating a market that could yield more money to clubs and the state.

The Portuguese League for Professional Football hosted a press conference on Wednesday, aiming to sensitize the government to the need of regulate on-line gambling.
Herminio Loureiro called to the fact that stakes are a reality accessible to all via Internet, but with which the state doesn't profit "one cent".

"The regulation of gambling on-line "opens a window of opportunities to increase tax revenues", added the president of League, adding that it is a means to "increase the income of clubs participating in professional competitions".
The official stressed that, on the on-line market, is use "player names, badges, competitions logos, without any financial gain".

Appealing to the end of monopoly of Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa, Loureiro secured this institution "could benefit from the regulation of on-line betting."
