Eusebio " The King" has died

The former Benfica player Eusébio, has died early last morning in Lisbon.
 Eusebio, 71 years old, died at 04:30 victim of cardiac arrest.

 The Portuguese footballer Eusébio, known as well as the "Black Panther" or "The King" was considered one of the best footballers of all time and the best of Benfica and Portugal.

With full name Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, remained one of biggest names from Portuguese and world soccer, even many years after leaving the lawns and beyond his goals memories, won titles or exhibitions.

Eusebio was born in Mafalala district of Lourenco Marques (now Maputo), Mozambique, January 25 1942, but was in Lisbon, where is arrived on 15th December 1960, that became a football star, inside and outside the borders, playing for the best Benfica ever.

 With Benfica's shirt on, in 313 games for the Portuguese league Eusebio scored 319 goals, to which are added 97 for Portugal's Cup.
 By Benfica, was European champion in 1961/62 and represented the Portuguese national team in 64 games, scoring 41 goals.

 Eusebio was voted the best European player in 1965 (Golden Ball award), "crowning himself" a year later, scoring in the 1966 World Cup nine goals, were Portugal finished third.



His funeral will be held tomorrow at 17:00 (portuguese time). Before the former footballer's casket will make a round the Benfica's Stadium of  "Light", as Eusebio's expressed desire in life.

Throughout the day, many fans gathered to remind Eusebio, next to his known statue, 
 in front of  Benfica stadium.

 The famous bronze statue that perpetuates Eusebio at the door of Stadium of Light, immortalizes the moment when the former Portuguese player makes one of his known strong shots .


 José Mourinho bemoaned this Sunday Eusebio's death , but stated that the former football's Portuguese glory has achieved a status of "immortal" for the country.

The Portuguese Government has decreed this Sunday three days of national mourning on the death of former footballer.
